Why families look for something other than Life360

The same few reasons come up again and again. Locations that are late or wrong are the biggest one: in one look at 146 recent 1–3 star reviews, 65 were about that.1 Others are worries about what happens to the data (in 2022, Life360 said it would stop selling precise location data to most data brokers2), the price of the paid memberships3, and teens who hate being tracked.

We wrote up each complaint, with sources, on Common Life360 problems.

What you get with Outft

Live family map

See where everyone is right now, and how fresh each location is.

Arrival and departure alerts

Know when they get to school, practice or home, and when they leave.

Drive monitoring

High speed over a limit you choose, hard braking and rapid starts, in a weekly summary. Rides as a passenger don't count as their driving.

The Lowdown

A short spoken update on the family that you can play in the car, no scrolling.

Always on for Honchos

Ghost mode lets kids take a break from their Buds, never from you. In Outft, a parent is a Honcho.

Nothing hidden from kids

Your kid can always see exactly what you can see, and when you last checked.

How Outft is different

Your data is never for sale

Outft never sells or shares your data, and there are no ads to pay for. Your family's location is end-to-end encrypted, so only your family can see it, not even us. We make money from family subscriptions, never ads. How it works

Honest about how fresh a location is

Every pin shows how old it is. If a phone goes offline or location gets switched off, the map tells you that instead of showing an old pin as if it were live.

Built for kids, not just about them

Kids get their own side of Outft: a map of their Buds, and Outfts, private crews of two to eight. Nothing is public: no profiles to find, no search, no "people you may know". When it feels like theirs, it stays on. More on teens

History you choose

Each person picks how long their location history is kept: none, 24 hours or 7 days. It's never kept longer, on any plan.

Other free options, honestly

If all you need is to see where someone is, Apple's Find My and Google Maps location sharing are free and already on most phones. Outft is for families who also want alerts for their own places, a weekly look at teen driving, and an app built with kids in mind.
